Here are a few photos from a challenging but fun assignment last week during an cemetery walk where actors portrayed historical figures from the community. Flashlights had to be kept off during the presentations so it was hard to get the actors in near total darkness, but it was fun playing with what little light there was available as groups were waiting to start and traveling between stops.
The more people you throw into an environmental portrait, the tougher it is to make something that’s not posed. But when you throw kids into the mix, things usually go off script pretty quickly so you can catch a couple of nice moments. This being for a story about a family who conserves energy by using rain barrels for watering their gardens and a push mower to cut their grass, I had an opportunity to get a little more editorially inspired and get a detail shot of the mower in action. I love to shoot details, but with most of my work being for the paper I don’t always get an opportunity.
